Is Pitchman Marc Gill the Next Billy Mays?

Since 2009, many people who follow DRTV have asked themselves who, if anyone, will be the next Billy Mays. This website has also asked this question from time to time and mostly has given tongue-in-cheek answers. Some possible candidates we have identified as successors to the late, great pitchman have included:

Deborah Mays

A sped-up chipmunk voice

Noam the Pitchman

Joe Fowler

EL and i-Lolly-P

Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez

AJ Khubani

Wendy “The Snapple Lady” Kaufman

The Sticky Wicky Lady

Bruce Singer

Antoine “Bed Intruder” Dodson

Some more plausible candidates have included Mays’s business partner Anthony Sullivan, who has appeared in many infomercials but lacks the kind of unique personality that made Mays iconic, and Vince “ShamWow” Offer, who has appeared in only one infomercial since 2009 (The Schticky) because he is convinced his breakthrough as a major movie star is just around the corner.

One up and coming pitchman might have a real chance at becoming the next Billy Mays. His name is Marc Gill and he has recently been pitching a wide variety of products in many TV infomercials. Watch Marc Gill in action for yourself:

Other commercials he has appeared in include: Perfect Tortilla, Drain Doctor, Grout Bully, and Perfect Meatloaf.

Marc Gill’s beard, booming voice, and physical stature are somewhat reminiscent of Billy Mays. What he lacks is Mays’s driving intensity. Gill smiles and comes across as affable, which makes him more like a typical TV pitchman.

Whether Marc Gill will become a pop culture infomercial icon in his own right remains to be seen.

  • That was fun to come across. Billy was an amazing guy. To be mentioned in the same breath is a real compliment….thanks so much!! I’m just working on doing the best job I’m capable of and with any luck, success will follow. Take care!!
    Marc 🙂

  • I actually poured myself a glass of champagne to celebrate the demise of the terminally obnoxious Billy Mays. There is absolutely no excuse for a pitchman to be screaming at the top of his lungs in a TV ad, and the ads always seemed to play the loudest at 3:00am. I’m hoping Karma will catch up to Marc Gill, as well. With regard to Marc’s comment- Billy Mays was NOT an “amazing guy”, he was a bleating jackass. Good riddance!

It’s bad enough that we must endure commercials on EXPENSIVE cable channels that are already fully subsidized by the outrageous fees we are charged- this is not something viewers agreed to do. But if you are going to barge into our homes UNINVITED to pitch a product, you OWE IT TO THE VIEWERS to be respectful. BARKING at them in a manner on par with proctological humor is unforgivable, and I make a point to boycott all products marketed in that manner. A pox on you, and your volume, Mr. Gill. Here’s hoping you suffer a long, painful death from throat cancer.

  • As a former host of The Shopping Channel in Canada, I had the pleasure of working with Marc and Billy. With Marc, it is his engaging smile, infectious personality and professional demonstrations that convince viewers they are making a confident purchase. He is his own man, has his own style and remains humble on his climb to stardom. Go, Marc, go!

  • Mark Gill is like Billy Mays in this way: He is on practically every infomercial on TV!

Comment by euGene on December 28, 2012 at 9:18 pm

  • Mark Gill hasn’t a single moment of cooking background ask him.
depending on who is around him when you ask, his response is that he is an actor he is just A TV acting chef unless you are a person with a product then its a whole different story.
He puts himself in a chef coat because he likes to receive the chef credit without having the credentials.
Don’t REAL CHEFS have to earn the coat? or the stripes on the collar? someone should call him out on that. The networks he presents on should background check this guy. shouldn’t he be wearing just an apron? Is his name even Mark Gill?

It is a slap in the face to the people who actually have culinary credentials.

Yes he seems like he is a likable guy but A
FAR CRY from awesome & not close to Billy Mays.

Billy though came across strong, Billy had a passion for his products, a drive and a true desire to help people make life a little easier one product at a time.

Mark Gill is a desperate Billy wannabe,
We even saw Mark at a show in Chicago and he was pitching himself as the next Billy. REALLY?!!!
People were rolling their eyes and he kept on boasting on himself he didn’t even notice the reactions.
Can’t you do anything on your own Mark or you just live life taking a ride everyone else s apron strings

Mark is a loud mouth fake!
I bet he cant fry a single egg without someone cracking it for him.

Comment by Len on February 2, 2013 at 2:37 pm

  • Wow, Alison, thats quite a little diatribe. Firstly, if you are going to go to town on some sort of rant on someone, at least spell the name right…..M…a…r…c. Not really sure what has prompted you to lie quite this much, but im sure you have your reasons. So lets look at all your issues. The chef coat. Nope, im not a chef. No papers. Im sure it doesnt matter to you that I worked in restaurants for years. Im sure it doesnt matter to you that the chef coat was never ever my idea. Im sure it doesnt matter to you that that was a decision made by other people. Either way, its just a coat.i have actually requested that I not be introduced ot referred to as a chef out of respect for those that are.
Heres the good one….I was pitching myself as the next Billy Mays. That freind is an absolute, outright lie. I dont usually call anyone a liar seeing as misunderstandings are so easy to occour. Im pretty confident calling this out seeing as I never ever refer to myself as the nexr Billy Mays. Comparisons have been made….not alot I can do about that. Similar backgrounds, styles and look, but thats been the same for the better part of 20 years. Beleive it or not, if you wander off to a state fair, or home show you will find more than one pitch person who shares that selling style. As far as boasting on myself, I am very proud of what ive been able to accomplish. This is a tough tough business, and its very difficult to get a working product, and theres alot of haters (refer to your comment). I am incredibly grateful for the success ive had and with any luck it will continue. As far as anything in my own…..I started out selling tube socks and calculators door to door out of a duffle bag and ended up a pretty successful TV pitchman, so the eye rolls dont mean a whole lot to me. I hope you are happy with what you do and are proud of your accomplishments. And I really hope you dont have people attack you the way you have atacked me. I will be back in Chicago this year. Please say hello, I woukd be happy to give you an oportunity to share your opinions in person.
    Marc 🙂

I think it’s funny you know so much about Marc and his pitches yet you claim to hate him
Allison sounds like she was probably rejected by Marc.I mean come on,if I hated someone so much I would not spend my time or energy spewing my bitterness.Dont you have anything better to occupy your time?
You must be the infommercial Gestapo
Now,we live in an age where we,have a gazillion tv channels but, you, choose to watch Marc who you claim is,such an asshole?
So call, know and we’ll send a DVD of how to be a pitchman or woman!!!!!
You know what’s funny I bet everyone of you haters would, buy it!!!!!
Now I predict a nasty response!!!

Comment by David Schmoll on January 17, 2014 at 7:31 pm

  • I actually went to high school with marc, who was a fat sweaty, greasy goof trying to be ‘someone’ by playing 4th string on the football team. As he got older one would see him at Saskatoon nightclub ‘Confetti’s’ dancing on the speakers, thinking he was ‘boss’ wearing a shaker knit sweater and dress pants, sometimes a fedora. It’s nice to see his acne cleared up, and with his head shaved, he has fixed the greasy problem as well. I guess the football thing didn’t pan out, too bad.

p.s. I wouldn’t buy anything he pitches, it probably smells like Vaseline and urine.

Comment by Craig on April 23, 2014 at 4:11 pm

  • Wow! High school quality ‘picking on’??!? That just might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen! I’m so sorry, Craig, that you are hanging on so tightly to what must have been your glory days…..25 years ago! Tough stuff, dude! All my best brother, see you on the TV 😀

Comment by Marc Gill on April 25, 2014 at 8:49 pm

  • Hey Craig 🙂 Seeing as you ‘forgot’ to leave your last name, I dug out one of the ole yearbooks…..boy, its been a while!! See, I don’t remember you at all, so I was curious who I could have left that much of an impression on!! I mean, holy crap!! Turns out I sort of recognized you. I don’t remember what you were like in high school, so I won’t make any comments. I do know however, that as an adult you are a bit of a coward, and kind of stupid. Ya see, there was only 2 Craigs in the whole school. And only one who played on the football team. Ta dah! Not bad for a fat, sweaty, greasy goof, huh? Oh by the way, the coward thing….the reason I don’t remember you, is that if someone had actually said that to me face to face, I would have remembered. But you didn’t. You spewed it out in a blogpost 27 years later. That, my friend, is pretty darn cowardly 😀 But the worst thing about this whole thing, and to be perfectly honest with you, the saddest, isn’t your need to act like a child….its your own 3 kids. What are you going to tell them when it comes time to be a man, and a father, and teach them about bullying? And respect? And kindness? and Compassion? What then Craig? Do you tell them that they should strive to possess those qualities, except for fat people? Will your advice to our next generation be ‘Be a good man, son’, except if you think a person isn’t as good at grade 12 football as you figure he should be, then all bets are off. Dude, even if you could explain away behavior from 25+ years ago as just being a dumb kid, or immature, or wrong, it wouldn’t matter, because you posted this 3 days ago!!!! I gotta tell ya brother, if you are able to take that in for a second, process it, and not come out the other side feeling just a little bit of shame and embarrassment, then you can’t be that much of a man. Or…..you’re still 17. Either way, I feel bad for you.

Comment by Marc Gill on April 26, 2014 at 6:41 am

  • Wow, do you people have lives? Rude, negative, bitter, little lives apparently? I personally knew Marc many moons ago when we were younger. He is an intelligent, creative, good looking man. I know he liked photography and media projects in the past. I think he is doing very well in the infomercial world. Somebody has to make these product pitches, why shouldn’t he be the one. He doesn’t to my knowledge, produce or write the ads so I don’t think any personal character ripping apart is called for at all. Most of you have opposable thumbs and can shut the tv off if you don’t like what you see.

Comment by Vanessa M on August 31, 2014 at 5:42 pm

  • People nowadays have no class. This man Marc here is just trying to earn an honest living at something he has some talent in. You don’t like his voice, just change the channel, problem solved.

  • Wow! So many hateful and hurtful comments on both the living and the dead. I have had the pleasure of knowing both parties, and both would give the shirt off their back, for even a stranger. What brings out this hatred on blogs is really only for a therapist to decipher, but it is certainly an unattractive quality in people.

  • I run a private foundation in the Tampa Bay area that feeds and clothes the homeless. I had the opportunity to meet Marc on one occasion. I’m guessing that most of the negative comments about him on this site are made by those who have never met Marc in person. Billy Mays is Billy Mays and Marc Gill is Marc Gill— two different people, and a variety of individual gifts. I don’t believe that Marc ever claimed to be the “next Billy Mays.” He’s a gifted human being in his own right, and trashing his character with the help of a keyboard online speaks volumes about the messenger.

  • Just wanted to say that both myself and my husband have known Marc for many, many years and he is an absolutely wonderful man. He is simply earning a living with his looks and talent. Everyone who has bashed him should first look at their own lives, are you earning a living? Are you okay to look at? If so then I do believe these comments should be pointed at you too. If you had a chance to sit down and talk to Marc face to face you would have a far different opinion of him.
Keep up the great work Marc, hope to hear from you soon.

Take his BBQ mats for instance…. he is frying foods on the grill and no way can you cook ribs that way!! Smokey flavor?? Total bullshit!! Just a loudmouth corporate shill and asshole IMO!!

  • I met Mark about a decade ago when he was working as a vendor at the local fairs in Western Canada. He is sketchy. Would sell his mother for a $1. Totally fake to people and cuts them up behind their backs. He only had a couple friends on the tour but they even knew what he was made of. Not surprised to see him on TV doing these worthless, tacky commercials. He has no self-respect, only wants to make money and be famous. He has no substance and is a sad pathetic person.

Marc loves his family. I don’t ever recall him saying a mean thing about anyone else. He was always a great salesman and friend and was quite animated when not working. Funny and kind; I can’t say a bad thing about him.
