Toasty Wrap: The Snuggie Blanket Rips Off Itself!
I’ve noted how the Snuggie Blanket with Sleeves copied an earlier product called The Slanket. But now the creators of the Snuggie who ripped off the Slanket have decided to rip off themselves!
There is a “new” product being advertised called Toasty Wrap. This product is a fleece “blanket with sleeves” that appears to be the same in every way as the Snuggie; the TV commercial uses the same video as the Snuggie; and the offer (Buy 1, Get 1 Free for $19.95 with a Book Light as a Free Bonus) is exactly the same as the Snuggie’s.
Watch the Toasty Wrap commercial:
And compare it to the Snuggie commercial:
Check out the website for the Toasty Wrap: www.MyToastyWrap.com
And compare it to the website for the Snuggie: www.FreeSnuggie.com
I have never seen a company create an exact replica of an existing product and sell it alongside its existing product. I am baffled as to why they would do such a thing. The corner logo for “Living Well Montel” that appears on the Toasty Wrap commercial might have something to do with it; maybe Montel Williams thought the name “Snuggie” was too tacky and wanted it changed before he would promote it (though I fail to see how “Toasty Wrap” is an improvement.)
Or perhaps they just want to fool gullible people who are dissatisfied with their Snuggies to try a “different” product by buying a Toasty Wrap.

After reading through Digital Target Marketing’s site, I noticed one of their specialities is something called “Re-marketing”… Perhaps this is what’s happening?

I’m so gonna call the customer service hotline and ask about the difference. Should be interesting.

There are many important differences between the two videos. For example, the Toasty Wrap people also wear blankets of colors other than just burgundy, as the Snuggle people do (of course, they are the same people, in the videos, and probably also in real life). Also, while in the Snuggle video the lady may be making a phone call wearing a red blanket, she reads a book wearing a sky blue color Toasty Wrap.

Being the idiot that I am, I am confused now, regarding comments #5 and #6. Who is serious and who is kidding?
My comment (#4) was, of course, meant to be just a joke, but it seems it failed to convey that tone to some.

Yeah I had to find out what the deal was with this product! My Mom ordered a SNUGGIE for my Grandma and then last night I see its called a toasty wrap on one channel so I thought they changed the name and then flipped to another channel and its still called the snuggie! WEIRD! 🙂

Ashley,
Tell your mother to return that, and to stop funding ridiculous companies selling pointless products to ignorant masses. This product makes me laugh and sick at the same time.

I noticed that the lady who complains about not being able to use her hands under the blanket, puts on a snuggie, operates the remote and then stuffs it up the sleeve, wtf. Second, how come the posted dates of 9 and 10 have not arrived yet?

Toasty Wrap? Very, very, interesting. It must not have made much an impression.

gee wiz – I thought they were changing it because of the bad reviews they’re getting off their online ordering – go to ripoff dot com or just type ripoff snuggie and all can see

I Whois’d both the sites, and even the whois information is almost exactly identical. They’re both registered through GoDaddy, their admin and tech contacts are exactly the same (except for the phone number, although both numbers are in the same area code), the only difference is the date of registration: freesnuggie.com was registered on October 31, whereas mytoastywrap.com was registered on December 30. Both appear to have been registered by Digital Target Marketing (digitaltargetmarketing.com), another evil marketing company bent on manipulating the natural forces of the internet to its devious ideals. Curious.
