Snuggie Commercials Rape Both Hanukkah and Christmas

The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Temple at Jerusalem. Customs associated with this eight day “festival of lights” include lighting a menorah, spinning a dreidel…and wearing Snuggies:

For those too appalled to listen, here are the lyrics (sung to the tune of “I Have a Little Dreidel”):

I got my friends a Snuggie for Hanukkah this year.
They’ll stay so warm and cozy when the holidays are near.
Oh Snuggie, Snuggie, Snuggie. Stay warm. Keep your hands free.
I think I’ll buy a Snuggie this Hanukkah for me. Oy!
Hanukkah is coming, the festival of lights.
We’re going to wear our Snuggie on each of the eight nights.

The Snuggie ads are produced by Fred Vanore’s Blue Moon Studios, who are also responsible for such infomercials as the Egg Genie and Listen Up. Until now, a Blue Moon Studios infomercial was characterized by casts filled with nothing but Caucasian mid-Westerners. So it cannot be an accident that the Hannukah Snuggie video features the most Semitic face ever to appear in a Blue Moon Studios spot.

But Christians should not feel left out. They are perfectly willing to blaspheme your winter holiday as well:

In addition to featuring a Jewess, these are the first Blue Moon Studios infomercials to feature black people, which can only mean one thing: the Kwanzaa Snuggie is coming soon! Perfect for African-Americans living in climates too cold for a dashiki.

Eight days of thanks to reader Harry Walker for letting us know about the Snuggie Hanukkah commercial!

  • The only future for the Snuggie is on a future “I Love 2008” episode of “I Love the 2000s” on VH1.
