It’s a Pillow. It’s a Pet. It’s a Pillow Pet!…and Other Annoying Commercial Jingles

There are just some advertising jingles that you can’t stand…but can’t manage to get out of you head! The most recent example for me is the infomercial for Pillow Pets™, which includes the annoying but indelible chant, “It’s a pillow. It’s a pet. It’s a Pillow Pet!” Watch the commercial for yourself, but note that you have been warned:

PillowPets are stuffed animals that double as a pillow when you open them up. I do not know any children who use Pillow Pets, but I would imagine that a toddler would get attached to the “pet”, insist in dragging the thing everywhere and getting it filthy in the process, and then refuse to sleep unless he could lay his head on his favorite “pillow.”

The part of the commercial at 0:07-0:10 looks like the “pets ” are being forced to spread eagle against a wall by a law enforcement officer.

The other advertising jingle that has been haunting me lately is not a TV commercial but a radio ad for BullFrog Sunblock. The words of the jingle are just “BullFrog Sunblock. BullFrog Sunblock.” But the word “BullFrog” is sung in a deep bass (in an attempt to mimic the croaking of a bull frog) and in contrast the word “Sunblock” is sung in a high pitch. This spot plays incessantly on the radio but I was not able to find a copy of it online.
