Hot Buns Hair Accessory: The Secret is in the Shaft

The terms “hot buns” and “hot booties” may be synonyms but the products named Hot Buns and Hot Booties have nothing in common. In fact, neither one of them have anything to do with enhancing the appearance of the derrière (for that you will have to check out Booty Pop).

Hot Buns (www.BuyHotBuns.com) is a hair accessory that lets women easily make their hair into a bun. Yet for some reason the producer of this infomercial has decided to play up the double entendres for all they’re worth:

Perhaps the creators of this infomercial felt they needed to add slightly off-color references to make this hair bun maker seem hip and sassy instead of prim and dowdy. Or maybe the screenwriter had just finished the script for LovRub and couldn’t get his mind around the new product.

Allusions to the rear end in the Hot Buns commercial include:

  • A shot that focuses on a woman’s denim-clad butt before panning up to her hair bun
  • Some woman singing, “I got big buns and I like it” in some kind of homage to the old Sir Mix-a-Lot song “Baby Got Back”
  • The comment, “Don’t bust your buns”
  • Mention of “Flat buns” and “Saggy loose buns”

But the dirtiest double entendres come from host Taylor Baldwin when she reveals, “The secret is in the shaft” and from a women who insists that “It goes in fast and easy. It feels good.”

The Hot Buns infomercial has enough “That’s what she said” moments to gladden the heart of Michael Scott from The Office.

  • Double-engenders aside, the only question I have is, why does a two-minute infomercial need a host?

  • If this trend for giving products off-color names continues maybe the old Billy Mays grabbing tool the Gopher will be brought back with the name “Hot Pole” or “Hot Snatch”
