The Body Snake Infomercial Boldly Resists the Cult of Beauty
Cultural critics of sundry ideological bents have long lambasted the ad industry for invariably featuring pretty people in their advertising. In beauty ads, women are all model-gorgeous. In fitness ads, men sport perfectly sculpted torsos.
So it might be refreshing to hear that the infomercial for the Body Snake has bravely decided to resist this trend…that is until you have to actually watch this thing yourself:
How many people were so grossed out at the sight of a blubbery, uncoordinated man straining to scrub his naked flesh in the shower that they immediately changed the channel before they ever had the chance to find out what product was being sold. (By the way, there is no truth to the rumor that the man in the Body Snake commercial is Pastor Rick Warren.)
Also, the woman using the foot scrubber stomps on that thing with such urgent force and fury that she might as well be crushing grapes or trying to kick-start a motorcycle.
Not to mention that the name “Body Snake” sounds like something a greasy pickup artist would brag about when making his rounds at a singles bar. (“Hey ladies, do you want to see my pet snake…my pet body snake?”)

Pity that their site would not open. I wanted to read more about their product so bad.

Dear god, I could not stop laughing after they flashed BETWEEN YOUR LEGS on the screen. Is it honestly that difficult for most people to wash their crotches?
