Vince Offer Tries to Ring Out a Few More Seconds of Fame with Eminem Promo

June 17th, 2010 Paul Lucas

ShamWow pitchman Vince Offer (also known as Vince Shlomi) saw his fame peak a year and a half ago, sometime between releasing the Slap Chop commercial and getting arrested for beating a hooker.

Top rapper Eminem saw his fame peak sometime in 2003. Yet someone thinks sales of Eminem’s latest album, Recovery, will be boosted by this “infomercial” video featuring Vince Offer:

The uninspired humor in this ham-handed attempt at a viral video consists mostly of Vince chopping up food with Eminem’s Recovery CD in a parody of the Slap Chop commercial. This might have been enough to count as (barely) amusing a year or two ago, but having Vince Offer go through the motions now already seems dated.

The only thing in the video that made me smile was the super-absorbent “ShamPon” tacked on as a free bonus.

Check out this article from MTV that makes that case for Vince Offer having “street cred.”

Update: Soon after having thrashed the Vince Offer/Eminem Recovery promo video, I found this extened version of it which is actually a lot funnier:

  1. Ugh. Not even *tenuously* in keeping with the product being advertized, and it’s less funny than the original infomercial it’s supposed to be parodying. Given this ham-fisted attempt at a viral campaign, it makes me wonder if Eminem’s fame is turning the way of Vince Offer’s.

Now if Vince had re-enacted the fight with the hooker with a few of Eminem’s tracks playing…

  2. Eh, the longer version sucks too, Paul.

Em and Vince- waaaaay past their fresh date at this point.

  3. Maybe instead of saying “a lot funnier” I should have said the long version is “slightly less unfunny.”

  4. Yes. Slightly funnier.

You should check out the latest silly Sully ad, for the “Ba’Noodle.” It’s a silly bendy strip that keeps your potato chip bag shut. Has the most dumb allieration and silly rhymes I think of any informercial recently.

  5. Otherwise, Vince is looking terrible in this video. Haggard and lacking in that old “I just did FIVE lines of cocaine”-zip that was a big part of his initial appeal. Recovering from an addiction to some bad vices, perhaps?

  6. I found it mildly funny. Maybe they oughta do a version with Jack Lalanne powerjuicing the CD and then drinking whatever came out of the machine… or include our favorite cigarette hag Hazel from the Magic Bullet coming on to Eminem… or whatever… or maybe not.

  7. The album sounds like it sucks- but funny commercial. I could have done without the mock testimonial- it just wasn’t funny.
