Slim Suit Helps You Lose Weight AND Look Like a B-Movie Space Alien

In the I-Can’t-Beleve-This-Is-A-Real-Commercial tradition of the Hawaii Chair, DramaTel, Tiddy Bear, and Uro Club, we present the 1980s commercial for the Slim Suit, a metallic body suit that automatically causes you to burn fat while you wear it.

It’s hard to believe no one wearing the Slim Suit feels compelled to say, “Take me to your leader.”

I guess the Slim Suit was supposed to act as a wearable sauna. I bet wringing the collected sweat of that thing was a real treat.

So it turns out the Snuggie was not the first garment sold via infomercial that makes you look like a total doofus.

  • It’s not the worst thing I’ve seen come out of the 80’s but it’s close.

  • “Slim Suit can make everyone look great!”

Well, yes, anyone can wear it, but I don’t know if they would look great doing so.

And did my ears and eyes deceive me when one of those women proclaimed she wore her Slim Suit “out shopping”?! They want people to actually go out in public in one of those things? Is it really comfortable to be in a sauna suit all day and when you’re sleeping? Like sweat collects in it?

I just have so many questions about this…it’s almost too much to take at once.

  • “Because of the incredible demand, supplies are limited. So order now!”

“You’ll lose weight just talking on the phone. Even sleeping overnight!”

    That’s precious.

I missed a lot of the 80s since I was still in intense medical training. If this infomercial is any indication, I didn’t miss much.

  • “Because of the incredible demand, supplies are limited. So order now!” was my favorite line too. I can only imagine how many warehouse tramplings there were due to this intense demand.

  • Didn’t the neighbors from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation wear those things?

  • You’ll notice the part at 0:47 where he says “*temporary* weight and inch loss.” Basically, this thing makes you sweat out excess water so you weigh less for a total of a few hours before you go back to your same ol’ self. I have to wonder how many dehydrated people this sent to the hospital…

  • Hi Paul, do you know who owns the copyright to this Slim Suit advert at all? Any help would be appreciated.
