But Wait, There’s More…Sponge Buddies, F-ertless, and Soap Away

Often I’ll come across a questionable product or dumb infomercial that you should know about but that doesn’t quite merit its own blog post. So I will start showcasing these infomercials in occasional round ups called But Wait, There’s More…

* Next time you take Fido to the local dog park wouldn’t you love to tell all the riff raff, “I wash my dog with the same kind of sponge that is used to wash the Olate dogs from America’s Got Talent!” Buy the Sponge Buddies “Dog Spa in a Sponge” and you will have earned the right to make that lofty claim.

Sponges that are inadequate for giving a dog a bath may be the least important problem in contemporary life.

* So is the f-ertless® device that helps you wash plastic baggies a great way to save money and the environment, or a strong entry in the category of “products that should have never been invented?”

Note that f-ertless inventor (and Barry Goldwater lookalike) Pat Knutson pronounces the name of the product “effortless” and not “fertless,” which would sound too much like “fartless.”

It really doesn’t help matters that the appearance of the product is reminiscent of a speculum.

Cheapskates everywhere will be even more thrilled with the next product from the f-ertless line: A device that lets you re-use toilet paper.

* Another non-problem is having to fill an empty soap dish. That’s why the infomercial for Soap Away bar soap dispenser has to include an implausible slip, fall, and scream to try to make their product seem more necessary.

The makers of Soap Away missed a great opportunity to stick a cartoon character head on the top of the product and market it as a “Pez Dispenser for Soap.”

  • You don’t use Sponge Buddies? Then you don’t “deliver all the love of the dog spa experience at home” like I do! I’m calling the SPCA!

  • Actually, the Soap Away is kind of cool in concept, if only because “Pez dispenser for soap” is totally awesome. The commercial is ri-goddamn-diculous, though, like most commercials for products like this.

  • Hands up, how many people saw the title and read “Fartless”?
