Light Relief Web Site Gives Robert Wagner a Creepy Mini-Me
May 11th, 2007 Paul Lucas
Have you seen the infomercial for Light Relief? Hosted by has-been actor Robert Wagner, the Light Relief infomercial sells a device that uses LEDs to deliver infrared “light therapy” to give people relief from arthritis and other pain. The TV infomercial for Light Relief isn’t actually very interesting.
But the Web site for Light Relief does something remarkable.
The Web site has a disturbing cut-out of an aging Robert Wagner suddenly slide across your browser and make a pitch for Light Relief. Probably the most troubling part is that this Robert Wagner silhouette doesn’t show up as soon as you load the page, but it waits a few seconds before ol’ Bob shows up. So a user will start reading about the features and benefits of the Light Relief product and then suddenly they get the crap scared out of them by a virtual Robert Wagner who shows up like Marley’s ghost disturbing Scrooge’s slumber. It’s all reminiscent of images like this.
This shrunken Robert Wagner reminds me somewhat of the old Saturday morning cartoon The Littles, except that Wagner lacks a tail.
Robert Wagner appeared in the Austin Powers movies, and thanks to the Light Relief Website he finally has a Mini-Me of his very own.
